For the past two years American Eagle have been leading the way in terms of body positive campaigns and they show no signs of stopping. Their #AerieREAL campaign is still out in full force, celebrating women’s naturally beautiful bodies, with no Photoshopping or retouching involved. This year they have launched their new campaign with self-declared “Queen of the In-Between” Barbie Ferreira at the forefront of it.

American Eagle’s lingerie and loungewear offshoot, Aerie, have been dedicated to their promise to stop retouching and photoshopping their ads, which is easy to say when the model is a size two, so it’s more than refreshing to see a size twelve woman in all her beauty in a global campaign. Aerie launched a video of Ferreira in a teaser trailer for the ads. The video shows Ferreira lounging by the pool speaking words of body-positive wisdom. “I am unapologetically myself, no matter what anyone’s opinion is, not being retouched in the images is something that’s very important to me – people knowing that, that’s what I look like without anyone’s perception of what my body needs to look like”

Jen Foyle, the global brand president for Aerie told Refinery29 “we cast Barbie because she’s got nothing to hid, she’s strong and beautiful – she embraces her real self, which is the spirit of the Aerie Real message”. You can check out the video below.
