On Tuesday well known travel website TripAdvisor announced the world’s leading destinations for 2016 and according to feedback from millions of TripAdvisor travellers our beloved Brighton has been named sixth trendiest holiday spot on the planet. SIXTH ON THE PLANET. THE WHOLE WORLD. We have beaten destinations in India, Canada, Peru and Brazil! Councillor Warren Morgan, leader of Brighton and Hove City Council told the Metro “I am delighted, but not surprised, that Brighton & Hove is recognised among the best in the world by travellers from the UK and overseas. The Award highlights the fantastic work by thousands across the city who work in tourism, culture, restaurants and entertainment to deliver an excellent service to the 11 million plus visitors who come here each year. As we know, Brighton and Hove truly is a ‘Destination on the Rise’ in 2016; not just with the opening of the British Airways i360, but also the 50th anniversary of the Brighton Festival and continued development of the city’s accommodation and major infrastructure”.
Brighton and Hove have already made headlines this year as the proudest city in the UK, and has also recently been voted the city with the most attractive population. Brighton is the only British city on the shortlist and was beaten by destinations in Colombia, Portugal, Russia, Tennessee and Tulum in Mexico taking the number one spot. A spokesman for TripAdvisor has said “Brighton’s seaside appeal is on the rise, and not just from British holidaygoers. The positive traveller reviews that the town has received this year on TripAdvisor, by visitors from all over the world, show the growing reputation it has earned as an international destination”. It’s understandable, Brighton is truly a great place to visit, with an abundance of independent shops and cafes, a thriving nightlife combined with the charm of a typical seaside resort, it’s really not that surprising that it’s made the top ten. Yet another reason to be proud of our wonderful home!
