Painted breasts and nipples, funny colorful wigs and above all loads of naked skin! More than 1,000 cyclists braved the chilly temperatures and the cool breeze yesterday afternoon and stripped off to join Brighton’s Annual Naked Bike Ride.

Totally naked or just wearing pants to cover necessary parts, many participants were colorfully painted or wearing funny wigs. Among all the nudity, you could also find the one or other dressed in more or less normal clothing or funny costumes.

Kicking off at Brighton’s Level, the flock of naked cyclists headed towards the Pier before cycling along the seafront towards Hove Lawns for a first stop. Making their way back to the city center via Western Road for another stop at The Old Steine, they passed through Kemptown before ending up down at the naturist beach near Volk’s Railway.

The one thing they all had in common was that they definitely had fun doing the ride and giving people in the streets something to stop and stare at. Most of them even waved eagerly at the crowds as they went past.

It was the eleventh time the event took place in Brighton. Other than protesting against car culture and raising awareness of the vulnerability of cyclists, they were celebrating the human body. Some had even brought flags and banners reading “Naked Planet”.
