Comes June, comes summer! Loads of sunshine till late in the evening, the smell of freshly mowed grass in the air… who doesn’t love to spend the whole day outside? Even the most avid fans of living in the city might find themselves wanting to escape the busy streets and head somewhere into the green for some great outdoor fun with friends.

Luckily, Brighton has a lot on offer when it comes to green refuges and free outdoor sports facilities that are just waiting for you to use them. Here is our little guide to outdoor Brighton for you!

Learn how to do a twister flip on your skateboard !

How many of us have bought or been given a skateboard at some point and never really used it? Admittedly, it’s tought to learn, but if all the others managed to learn, why not you? Get your skateboard out and head to the Level. With skaterboys and girls around all day long, they might even teach you some of their tricks.

Discover your inner Rafael Nadal or Serena Williams!

You surely know someone who plays tennis and can lend you a pair of rackets and some balls. That’s all it takes to get you started. And of course, a partner might be helpful as well. There are many free tennis courts around the city, so why not use them? This one for example is up at Preston Park!

Ping pong till the sun sets !

Topspin, drop shot, dead ball… No need to know all the pro terms or to join Brighton’s table tennis club to enjoy the thrills of a ping pong match. Just get two bats, a set of balls, grab a friend and head out to either the Level or the seafront near the i360. How many times do you manage to make that little ball jump over the table before one of you messes up?

Do it like the French!

Highly popular among our continental neighbours, who call it Pétanque, boules is a good alternative to all the other outdoor sports activities that make you sweat after a couple of minutes. Rather than exhausting yourself running around trying to catch a ball, it is precision and a calm hand that are crucial here. Who of you makes it closest to the little wooden ball? Find out at the boules court up at Preston Park!

Tackle him down, but gently!

You surely have an old rugby ball sitting around somewhere in your house. So why not get it out, dust it off and call your friends for a somewhat different activity than you usually do when you get together? It might be a good idea to apologize upfront for any kind of rather rough body contact before kicking off and then just grab the oval ball and run for your life! Although you can play at pretty much every wider green area in Brighton, Preston Park is probably the best spot with lots of space and rugby lines on the lawns.

Be mean, make them run!

Here is yet another outdoor sport that will really make you sweat! Depending on how talented, or untalented, your partner is when it comes to aiming towars you, you might find yourself running criss cross all over the place trying to catch the disc before it touches the ground. Good news for you, once it’s in your possession, you can pay them back! Preston Park, Queens Park, Stanmer Park… wherever is good for some frisbee fun!
