On 10th May, there’s a spectacular Harry Potter quiz coming to Revolution Brighton. Bring down a team of 1-8 people and test out your knowledge of the magical world of Hogwarts and beyond. If you’re a diehard potterhead this one-evening-only special event is for you! Revolution will be transformed into an immersive haven where you can compete against fellow wizards and witches to win the infamous ‘Wizardry Cup’. The quiz will test you on how much you love the series but that’s not all, fancy dress is strongly encouraged for the wizardly cavorting with a prize for best dressed.
All proceeds from the quiz will go to child.org, an international children’s charity that encourages community-led development. They are developing ways to keep children at school and keep learning to their full potential. There are millions if not billions of children who start life at a disadvantage, whether that be no access to rudimentary education, living in poverty or any of the other factors that cause inequality within our society. Child.org have a mission to break down the barriers that stand in the way of children’s fundamental right to healthcare, education and protection. They have been, and want to continue, building programmes that will push forward the charity sector. On their website they detail that “charities can’t do things that are unsexy with donor money, so opt for sexier but less effective options. They can’t take the risk of trying new things, so the programmes don’t get better. Our sector is slow moving, narrow in focus and wedded to individual solutions”. So in order to enable change within these communities they need donors. They have a five-step plan, Identify the issue, Design a problem, Prove their concept, Iterate the concept and Scale it up to work for communities. They currently have Baby Boxes, for the young mums of Nairobi where infant morbidity rates are severely high; HealthStart, which aims to stop the endless cycle of poverty through a comprehensive school health and education programme and others, such as setting up women’s groups to give women and girls valuable agricultural and life skills to lift their families above the poverty line for good.
So…now you know about the charity there is no better reason to head down to the Harry Potter quiz. It’s going to be loads of fun and raises money for a truly innovative charity that needs your help.
