I find Antonio in the Pavilion gardens, strumming away on his electric guitar as Brighton residents wander by. His playing is brilliant, often stopping people in the midst of their busy lives to take a moment and listen.
How long have you played guitar?
Oh, a long time, I have played guitar for forty years. I play here in the afternoon and I play by the Odeon. I play from five to seven every day.
Where are you from?
I am from Italy, I have lived in a lot of different places there. I’ve lived all over the world. (He tells me he lived in a particular Italian city for twenty years, but his accent is too thick to translate). The people there did this to me (gesturing to some metal in his teeth), two people. They were not good people there. Then I came to Brighton.
How long have you lived in Brighton?
Two years. Here the people are good. Every day though it rains on me in England, it rains all the time in Brighton, in Italy it is sunny every day!
