Humans of Brighton – Meet Gonzalo The Teacher
Hello Gonzalo, nice to meet you! Where are you from? I’m from Malaga in Spain.
That’s interesting. What are you doing in Brighton? I’ve lived here for 4 months and I’m building a new life. I want to gain new experiences in Brighton.
Why did you choose Brighton? I wanted to come to England because I like the country. I’ve some friends in London who recommended Brighton because it’s more lovely and open-minded than London, which is very busy and expensive. I also like the fact that there is a beach here like in Malaga, in that way Brighton feels a bit like home.
Where is your favourite place in Brighton? Honestly right here at the Royal Pavilion. This was the first place I visited when I arrived to Brighton. I love the atmosphere and enjoy the music, the birds, and all the people relaxing outside the palace. Often I take my guitar with me and play for myself. But I don’t want to make money with music, it’s just to relax and calm down. I love the music and it accompanies me everywhere I go.
What are your plans for the future? I want to become a teacher in Brighton. I was a teacher in Malaga for 5 years. After that I moved to Austria for 2 years, where I also worked as a teacher. Now I want to become a Spanish and history teacher here in Brighton. But first I have to improve my English and earn some money to live here. I’ve worked in a restaurant for a couple weeks as a cook, but I left the restaurant because I was unhappy there and the working conditions weren’t good.
Do you want to go back to Spain after some time? Perhaps yes, but I’m still not sure where to go next. Maybe I’ll stay here, maybe I’ll visit a new place, or perhaps I’ll go back to Spain. We will see.
Thank you, Gonzalo, it was very nice to meet you! I hope your dream to become a teacher in Brighton comes true. Enjoy the Brighton Lifestyle!
