This week is cycle to work week, so get out your old faithful (however rusty it may be) and get back on! After all, it’s just like riding a bike.
Cycling to work (or anywhere for that matter) can be a great way to feel healthier, not to mention happier, after releasing all those endorphins. Bicycles also massively reduce your carbon footprint, as well as making you significant savings on transport.
A national survey of England’s cycling habits suggested that during 2015/16:
- 3.4% cycled five times a week
- 12% cycled at least once a week
- 5.7% cycled at least three times a week
- 17% cycled at least once per month
Another statistic suggests that up to 69% of people aged 18+ never cycle.
Love to Ride have started a competition to help motivate more reluctant riders. Simply sign up and register here, then the more cycle rides you log, the more chance you have of winning great prizes! You could win up to £100 to spend at your local bike shop.
If you’re a little rusty, or unsure of how to look after your bike, sign up to one of the council’s great bike workshops. These include bike maintenance and cycle train courses, and start from £10. Find out more here.
