Local direct action collective Brighton Homelessness Action Group have started a crowd-funding campaign in an aim to raise funds to buy the kinds of useful equipment needed for those living on our streets this winter.
The group are encouraging people to make donations of equipment which may be useful too, if they have it laying around unused.
The group will then organise street runs, for which they may need people to volunteer to help with sharing and distributing donations. Keep your eyes peeled for their street run event pages.
If you’ve got some spare time on your hands, or the odd sleeping bag or roll mat lying around, then we urge you to donate it to this more than worthy cause, and help out those who find themselves in a very tough situation this winter.
Organisers of the crowd-funder are also looking for donations of waterproof clothing, thermal underwear, hats, gloves & scarves, rucksacks, and bivvy bags for keeping sleeping bags dry.
We are with the Brighton Homelessness Action Group in our plea for those reading this that care about street homelessness, and those who have no choice but to sleep rough this winter, to support the cause by lobbying central government and local authorities to push for long term change to end homelessness.
“Everyone has the right to shelter. Everyone deserves a home. No one should be left to struggle and die on our streets. If we don’t do something. Nothing will change.”
