After selling out The Lock In ‘Christmas Carol’ this popping, contemporary dance company return to Ye Olde Fighting Cocks pub for a new and hilarious version of their critically acclaimed dance show! The show fuses Hip Hop and Folk dance, creating a miscellaneous and mad mix of the traditional and the cutting edge.

The music will be provided by the Demon Barbers, whose eclectic ensemble merges both traditional folk techniques and instruments (fiddle, concertina and harmonica) and more contemporary musical approaches and instruments (electric bass guitar and drums). Their sound is a true reflection of the collision between old and the new that this show presents. The band won the ‘Best Live Act’ award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.

The plot involves a group of hip hop dancers who have to fight for fusion and against tradition. They arrive at an apparently deserted pub (very apt in this venue) but rumour has it this old-fashioned inn is often visited by ‘other worldly’ characters. As the regulars arrive, a clash of cultures soon turns into a dance off. The fun is at risk as some characters try to hold onto tradition, but its clear this show advocates and celebrates the wonders of cultural mixing and merging.

What better venue to house this collision of old folk and contemporary dance than a traditionally furnished, British pub serving classic comfort food. As if transported back in time by the setting, and then brought violently up to date, this high-energy celebration of dance culture will keep the audience guessing. The show takes elements of traditional Grimms’ fairy tales and turns them on their head; a modern, upbeat score keeps the show lively and current.
