Some time after midnight last night, a loud bang was heard over central Brighton, alerting residents and alarming birds… But what was it?
Not even joking I just heard a massive bang in central Brighton and loads of birds are screaming… honestly that was massive

The loud explosion was heard by many and talked about on Twitter, but where did it originate? Locals past Elm Grove and even Preston Park heard it…
@sussex_police any clue what the massive bang in Brighton about ten minutes ago was?

Many thought it may have been someone letting off fireworks, but soon realised it was too loud for that.
Okay. I thought someone was letting off fireworks? But it was just one massive bang. Anyone else in Brighton hear that?

A spokesperson for Sussex police said, “At around 20 minutes past midnight on Monday (26 June) police received a report of a loud bang in the Preston Road area of Brighton” and that “There were no reports of injury or damage to property.”
Speculation is abundant but at present nothing has been confirmed.
