Pier 2 Pier Beach Clean and Recycling and Refuse Brighton and Hove have teamed up to create a Silent Disco Beach Clean on May the 20th, to try and keep our beautiful Brighton beach clean, as well as reduce the amount of plastic in our ocean to protect marine life.
This great day out, in aid of a fantastic cause, will include three different silent disco stations to choose from, marine education for all those attending and the opportunity to trade your trash for treats.
Just to add to the excitement, the event is Fringe is inspired, so naturally, being Brighton, fancy dress is encouraged! The theme of choice is Set Yourself Free, so let your inner child out and don your most outrageous, freeing outfit – but most importantly make sure it’s recycled and not new!
Whist the day will be fantastic fun for all who take part, there’s obviously a serious undertone. With the weather warming up, and the hordes of tourists flocking to Brighton beach, the amount of rubbish left has drastically increased. Last month the team behind the Silent Disco Beach Clean collected over 200kg of litter in just 3 hours – every piece of which is a potential threat to marine species. The team also hope that by getting a huge amount of people down to help, as well as them all being in fancy dress, will mean that others enjoying the beach on the day will notice, and begin to understand that they need to take their rubbish with them – in turn creating a cleaner future for Brighton beach.
The Silent Disco is also a great opportunity to educate the little ones in your life about the importance of creating a clean beach, by showing them that litter picking can be fun, and done in fancy dress.
Things kick off at 11am at The Tempest Inn on the sea front, where you can pick up your litter grabbers, headphones and gloves! Don’t forget your £5 deposit for headphones and your reusable back to collect your litter. More information can be found here.
