Restaurant of the Week: The Daily Catch

Restaurant of the Week: The Daily Catch
Georgia Kolakowski

The Daily Catch has a 4.5 TripAdvisor rating and glowing reviews all round. They’re known for their classic seaside dishes with the best reviews coming in about their ‘light, golden, properly cooked and seasoned’ chips. They have low prices and high quality foods with a prime St James’s Street location.

A locals favourite, they are a refreshing change from the more commercial and lower-quality offerings along the seafront. They’re open past 9pm during the week so they’re a perfect choice for a late night supper. The most apparent praise is for the ‘nothing fancy, no gimmicks’ approach they have taken and their consistent nature makes them a popular choice for returning tourists and locals alike.

As the name may suggest, The Daily Catch get their fish delivered to the shop fresh every day. The staff mostly cook whilst you wait so expect to see your fish being battered, fried and served right in front of you. Multiple reviewers describe the restaurant as the greatest fish & chips they’ve eaten with one excitedly stating “BEST I’VE EVER HAD” and another “We are Northern, so [we are] very fussy about our fish, chips and mushy peas. Lovely staff, great selection and always good food.”

The un-pretentious nature of the decor and the classic British takeaway look is perhaps what attracts people most to The Daily Catch. It’s simple, good, honest food with a no nonsense approach. There are wonderful reports on the friendly staff members who “always greet customers with the widest of smiles.”

Bear this one in mind for the sunniest (or rainiest) days on Brighton beach!
