It’s Shrove Tuesday, which means most of us are either flipping and stacking some pancakes at home or heading out in search of the best sweet treats in town.
But today is the final curtain call for pancake house the Creperie, which opened three years ago. No longer will the people of Brighton and Hove be able to enjoy 100 per cent gluten-free crepes, waffles, and galettes by the seafront.
The Ship Street eatery announced on social media earlier this month that it would be closing today. The Facebook statement read:
“It is with sadness we are announcing that the Creperie will be closing down on Tuesday 28th February (which happens to be PANCAKE DAY) due to the Owner deciding to explore other business ventures.
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your loyal custom over the last 3 years and we do hope you come to see us before we close.”
Understandably, comments from loyal customers have been pouring in: “Such a shame. You guys are brilliant,” posted one. Another said: “Oh no. I love this place. On numerous occasions, we have travelled from Portsmouth just to eat here.”
It’s not all sad news, though – the owners would be happy to let someone take on the lease for either the Creperie as it is, or as a smaller takeaway version.
