The weather couldn’t have been any better for the Saltdean Lido‘s big re-opening this weekend! Thousands headed to the newly renovated pool to be among the first to go for a dip after what seems like an eternal seven year wait!
Equipped with towels, blankets and swimming gear, the first swimmers flocked to the pool around nine on Saturday morning. After a synchronized swimming routine by the Brighton Swimming Club, it was finally time to launch the countdown and jump into the heated pool at 10 am!
The carefully scheduled swimming sessions for the taster weekend were all sold-out as people were eager to be among the first to go for a dip in the newly renovated Grade II listed lido. Some had even come a long way to not miss the event! Around 5,000 went for a swim over the weekend!
After a seven-year battle to fund and realise the renovation project, the re-opening felt like a historic moment, especially for those who went to the Lido during their childhood. Members of the Saltdean Lido Community Interest Company were more than happy with the big opening and hope for a great summer season.
At the moment, the Saltdean Lido is only open on weekends. But from July 8, the pool will be open every day until September 17.
