Recognised as one of the top children’s books of all time and more than 41 million copies sold worldwide, The Very Hungry Caterpillar is coming to Brighton next month with it’s very own show. After popular shows in the West End and New York, it’s an experience of one of the most iconic characters in children’s literature. The show will be playing at The Warren as part of Brighton Fringe festival from Friday 12th to Sunday 14th May 2017. The Very Hungry Caterpillar will be celebrating it’s 50th anniversary in 2019.
Featuring a menagerie of 75 enchanting puppets, the show will run for 60 minutes. This magical experience will adapt four of the author, Eric Carle’s best loved books: The Artist Who Painted a Blue Horse, Mister Seahorse, The Very Lonely Firefly and the well know, The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
“I am delighted my friends in the UK are able to share the same enjoyment I felt when seeing my characters come to life in the beautiful and enchanting Broadway production of The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show.” – Eric Carle
The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show has been adapted for the stage by director Jonathan Rockefeller. His production sees four master puppeteers weave their way through Eric Carle’s stories by bringing to life 75 magical puppets that recreate the wonderful and colourful world of the illustrations.
By creating a deceptively simple, yet sophisticated introduction to reading these iconic stories, Carle has made audiences feel enthralled by the stylish and captivating art in his work. These books have captivated generations of readers with hand-painted illustrations and simple stories. Millions of children are introduced to a bigger and brighter world, opening the minds and hearts of children all over the world.
The cast will feature Andre Cullimore, Sarah Hamilton (both Charlie and Lola tour), Katie Haygarth (In The Night Garden Live) and Adam Ryan ( The Smurfs Live, World Tour).
Be ready to be mesmerized as the characters and stories will be brought to life through puppets. Bursting with vibrant colour and astonishing comparison to the original illustrations.
