For the past 18 months the Saudi Arabian coalition which is backed by the UK and the US has been dropping bombs on Yemen in support of the deposed government over there. Specifically targeting civilians and civilian food production which is a war crime. 12 million Yemeni people are starving which is about half of the population and 80 % of the population is in desperate need of humanitarian aide but the Saudi coalition are not letting humanitarian groups like the UN into the country to give aide.
The UK and US are selling arms to Saudi Arabia, giving them military advice and providing diplomatic support for its interventions. We are also providing special training for the pilots which is supposed to prevent the Saudi’s from dropping misplaced bombs, so we can only assume that their pilots aren’t getting the proper training or that they are intentional bombing the civilian food productions.
In a Commons debate on the 28th of October 2016, the shadow foreign secretary Emily Thornberry said the UK government should withdraw their support with the Saudi coalition until an independent UN investigation could examine if the Saudi bombing (which has killed thousands of Yemeni civilians) was in breach of international humanitarian law.
The labour call was unsuccessful! The motion failed by 90 votes, their were 100 labour MP’s that obtained from withdrawing support. “Peter Kyle was one of those MP’s and that’s why we’re in front of Peter Kyle’s office today protesting and trying to raise awareness about a conflict which is massively under reported.”
