War Horse will finally open at The Brighton Centre next week on Thursday 25th January, after tickets went to sale almost two years ago. The National Theatre’s acclaimed show embarks on a huge UK tour this year, running in Brighton from January 25th until February 10th. Tickets will range from £20-£52.50.
The play is originally based on Michael Morpurgo’s novel War Horse, and follows the relationship between a boy and his beloved horse through the First World War. The show features life size horse puppets from the Handspring Puppet Company of South Africa. The show premiered at London’s National Theatre in 2008, and has since been put on in the US, Canada, China and South Africa.
“Joey and the other horses in the show are truly magnificent creations by the Handspring Puppet Company which don’t aim for picturesque realism but with their wooden framework, translucent fabric skins, and extraordinary mobility somehow capture the very essence of everything equine.” – Charles Spencer, The Telegraph
“All age groups in the audience seemed enchanted and mesmerised by this endearing and imaginative piece, won over by the sheer skill and endurance of the manipulators and the overwhelming scale of the play. Two curtain calls could easily have gone on to 20 such was the enthusiasm, particularly from the younger members of the audience.” – Peter Brown, London Theatre
“Extraordinarily fresh and moving production.” – Paul Taylor, The Independent
