Brighton Nominated In The Top 40 Holiday Destinations In The World Of 2019
The Guardian picked its top 40 holiday destinations for 2019 and Brighton didn’t fail to get a spot on the list. Amongst the many beautiful characteristics of our town, the Guardian put us on their list for the rich mod subculture history that Brighton has.
This year will be the 40th anniversary of Quadrophenia, the drama film loosely based on The Who’s 1973 rock opera of the same name and set in Brighton. Because of this, the Mod Weekender, which will take place during bank holiday (24-26 August), is expected to be bigger than ever with the participation of parka-wearing, Vespa loving mods. The city will transform for a few days and it will be the perfect place for scooter rides and 60s themed parties.
The Guardian mentions several ways to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Quadrophenia and to essentially have an immersive experience of Brighton and its mod culture. Their suggestions to “celebrate all things mod include a walking tour of key locations, from the seafront arches to the Grand Hotel, with a local blue badge guide”. Look the part with gear from Jump the Gun or Pretty Green in the Lanes and stay at Hotel Pelirocco, near the seafront, which has a Modrophenia bedroom, with Vespa bedside tables and Keith Moon prints.
