This week on Gigs of the Week in Brighton and Hove brings you legends of 80s pop, an Australian singer-songwriter, and up and coming indie bands. Brighton Journal has compiled a comprehensive list of bands taking you to music venues all over the city, some big and some small.

Say Sue Me @ The Hope and Ruin, Monday 12th November

Say Sue Me are returning to the UK this week for an intimate show at The Hope and Ruin. The surfer-rock four-piece rose to prominence at SXSW festival in Texas this year before the release of their second album, Where We Were Together. They will be supported by Winter Gardens, ‘dream-punk’ band, and singer-songwriter, Cubzoa.

Culture Club @ Brighton Centre, Tuesday 13th November

Legends of pop, Culture Club, will be heading down to the seafront to play a headline show at Brighton Centre. The group, fronted by lead singer, Boy George, has led the musicians to fame selling over 50 million records all over the world. Such hits you can expect to hear include ‘Do You Really Want to Hurt Me’, ‘Karma Chameleon’, and ‘I’ll Tumble 4 Ya’.

Grymm @Sticky Mike’s Frog Bar, Wednesday 14th November

Local band, Gyrmm are hosting a single launch at Sticky Mike’s to celebrate the release of  ‘Br-Ea-The’. The three-piece band will play alongside Glove and Tartan Tan Tan Tan. Their indie-grunge sound is full of energy on stage, carried by heavy percussion and sharp melodic hooks.

Wand @ The Haunt, Thursday 15th November

Wand are a dreamy, psychedelic rock band from Los Angeles, returning to Brighton for the 2018 UK tour. The band were quickly signed to Ty Segall’s label after forming five years ago and grew to fame supporting him on his tours. Newly released tracks from 2018 such as ‘Perfume’ and ‘Pure Romance’ are carried by soft vocals paired with dynamic guitar riffs.

Courtney Barnett @ Brighton Dome, Friday 16th November

Courtney Barnett has risen to fame as a singer-songwriter since her first release in 2012. Her conversational, DIY style of music has captured many people’s attention, with singles such as ‘Avant Gardner’ and ‘Pedestrian at Best’. Barnett will be playing Brighton Dome this Friday, with support from Laura Jean.

Happy Accidents @ Green Door Store, Saturday 17th November

Happy Accidents are an indie-pop outfit from London who has risen the ranks since their first record in 2016. Their newest release, Everything But The Here and Now, contains the popular single, ‘Wait it Out’. Their support is from Philadelphia band, Hurry, bringing tracks with catchy vocals and hypnotic bass lines.

BLOXX @ Komedia, Sunday 18th November

Uxbridge-based band, BLOXX are concluding the weekend, bringing alternative sounds to Komedia in Brighton. The female-fronted four-piece are known for their single, ‘You’, which is at almost three million plays on Spotify. They are known to combine grungy tones with indie-pop melodies, making their sound accessible.
