Named after Andrey Kurkov’s satire of post-Soviet Ukraine, south London four-piece Death and the Penguin bring their own skewed brand of vocal-heavy rock. Blending elements of alternative rock, post-rock, math-rock and hardcore with an intriguing set of sounds/instrumentation, the band have had received critical acclaim from the likes of Artrocker, DIY, Pink Mist and Musical Mathematics.

Saturday – Cruel Birds @ The Brunswick


The Cruel Birds are a Brighton-based soul four-piece inspired by the Memphis, Chicago and New Orleans soul artists of the 60’s and early 70’s, and by the recordings made at the legendary Fame Studio in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.

Expect more than a few lost soul gems, with a sprinkling of classic hits and contemporary soul and funk.
