Now the festive period has sadly come to an end, it’s time to start reengaging with Brighton and Hove’s incredibly eclectic music scene. This week, we have highlighted the artists playing in some of the city’s more intimate venues, along with some of the best Brighton-based talent.

Frank and Beans + more… @ Prince Albert, Monday 7th January

The Prince Albert return their ‘Locals’ live music night with a headline slot from “anti-punk” duo, Frank & Beans. The two-piece amalgamate organic dance music with strong bluesy riffs from Milo Dunn-Clarke and impeccably tight percussion from Tim Burns. They will be supported by other Brighton-based bands: Dirty, Bellydancer, and Dagobah Sisters.

Peace in Protest + more… @ Green Door Store, Tuesday 8th January

New to 2019, ‘Brighton Rock’ will be taking off at Green Door Store to bring you four diverse, up-and-coming bands. Peace in Protest will be headlining the event – a Hard Rock trio from Brighton fusing pop-like hooks with heavy rock riffs. Other artists featured include GNARLAH, Dali, and Vertigo.

Rising Fever + more… @ The Brunswick, Wednesday 9th January

The Brunswick in Hove will be hosting a handful of local singer-songwriter talent, featuring indie-folk musician, Rising Fever. Brainchild behind the act is Sammy Harrison, singing soft and sweet vocals accompanied by acoustic melodies. Lisa Nora, Josh McGovern and Hard Fact will also be performing earlier on in the night.

Rae Spoon @ Green Door Store, Thursday 10th January

Canadian musician and author, Rae Spoon, will be bringing their experimental folk music to Green Door Store this Thursday. With nine studio albums and their own indie record label, their newest release, bodiesofwater, will be released on Rae’s 20th anniversary of their first live performance. They will also have support from I, Thou and others to be announced.

You Tell Me instore signing @ Resident, Friday 11th January

You Tell Me is comprised of Field Music’s Peter Brewis and Admiral Fallow’s pianist and flautist, Sarah Haynes. Resident will be hosting the duo for an instore performance and signing of their debut self-titled album. Tickets are available on the basis you purchase their record, guaranteeing you two guest spots to the gig.

Perch @ The Hope and Ruin, Saturday 12th January

Join Perch for their 90s influence post-grunge rock for their album launch at The Hope and Ruin this weekend. Originating as a solo project, the Brighton band has evolved in to a dynamic four-piece. The band will be joined on the night by I’m Being Good, Broker, and Owte.

Mara Simpson @ Resident, Sunday 13th January

Resident will be hosting classically trained pianist and guitarist, Mara Simpson for a special Sunday afternoon performance. The Brighton-based musician and storyteller is known for her collaborations with numerous artists helping her to curate a unique and emotive sound. Her new album, 285 days, is out on Friday.
