Locals open their doors for Martlets Open Garden Weekend 6-7 July
Martlets are hosting an Open Garden weekend this Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th July. Here, members of the public can embark on a journey through some of the city’s beautiful private green spaces. Whilst observing some of the creative talent that goes into the hidden gems of local gardeners, visitors will be able to enjoy refreshments and live music. The opportunity to speak with the passionate gardeners, participate in a raffle and buy some plants of your own will also be on the table this weekend.
The Martlets Hospice Garden in Hove will be open on Saturday 6th with a chance to experience the lovingly tended gardens that bring comfort and peace to patients and their loved ones. Martlets also runs horticultural therapy groups ‘Sow & Grow’ and ‘Earthworks’ offering patients a calming connection with nature and the continuing cycle of life.
Martlets is a charity that cares for people living through a terminal illness, supporting patients and families alike. Today, most are able to receive care in their own home. The hospice in Hove is a place where patients and their families can use the therapeutic services, drop-in clinics, visit the in-patient unit or just sit and have a coffee in the café.
Imelda Glackin, CEO Marlets commented: “The weekend embodies our love of nature and acknowledges enrichment gardens bring to people’s lives. Come along and connect with friends and family, meet new neighbours in your area and help support much-needed hospice care. Thank you to our garden owners and volunteers for their hard work and we hope you enjoy visiting these delightful gardens.”
The care provided from Martlets is free, however this is only thanks to the generosity of those who contribute to such a beneficial service. The Open Garden Weekend will benefit greatly in raising money for the charity, whilst all attendants can enjoy a luscious and calming day out in an environment that is therapeutic for us all.
