Brighton uses a staggering 242 million single-use plastics a year. To help decrease the amount of plastic waste The Source Bulk Foods is here to revolutionalise how you shop!

Where it all began

The Source Bulk Foods started in Australia in 2012 and came to the UK in 2018.

Makayla Drummond’s, Managing Director, who opened the stores in London, spoke about her desire to open The Source Bulk Foods in the UK,

“Personally I was trying to minimalise my own waste. Most of the stuff coming out of my house was rubbish. So it alerted me to the plastic problem. We saw the concept in Australia and just fell in love with it. So I thought if these guys wanted to come to the UK I wanted to be involved.”

With two stores based in Chiswick and Battersea, The Source Bulk Foods have helped the local community reduce an estimated 600,000 single-use plastics.

On bringing The Source Bulk Foods south, Makayla said,

“We got so much enthusiasm and excitement from the customers in London. We thought with Brighton there’s so much passion, the customers already know what to do, so I thought Brighton would be perfect.”

What’s Available

The Source Bulk Food offers customers an alternative, package-free shopping experience for their customers.

There’s a whole range of products available. From dried fruit and nuts, herbs and spices and “a naughty and wonderful range of chocolates.” Also offered is a range of household staples such as rice, grains, pasta and flours with gluten-free and vegan options. Customers can make their own nut butter, they can fill glass jars, sold in the store, with honey and cooking oils available and they can also try the Kombucha on tap. There’s even refills for liquid shampoos and cleaning products.

Makayla said,

“We believe the community here is as enthusiastic as we are when it comes to decreasing the amount of single-use plastics, and we can’t wait to welcome our new customers.”

The Souce Bulk Foods offer a loyalty system where points, amounting to 5p, are awarded every purchase. To mark the grand opening in Brighton they’re giving away 100 points to the first 100 customers, which adds up to £5 towards your next purchase.
