Racial abuse incident investigated in Brighton

Racial abuse incident investigated in Brighton

Sussex Police are looking for witnesses to help their investigation of an allegation of racial abuse made towards a man in Brighton.

A local man in his 30s was walking along Rock Place in Kemptown at around 7.30pm on Thursday 20 December when another man subjected him to unprovoked racist comments.

The suspect also spat at the other man, who then fled the scene.

Allegations of racial abuse are taken very seriously by Sussex Police and are treated as a ‘hate crime’.

By definition from Sussex Police, a hate crime is “when a person is treated with hate just for who they are – e.g. for their sexuality, gender identity, disability, race, faith, or gypsy heritage.”

Police are encouraging anyone who recognises the person in the picture – or anyone who witnessed the incident – to report it online or call 101, quoting serial 44 of 22/12.

You can also visit the Crimestoppers website or contact the independent charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
