If you love art but want to try something new, House of Alchemy has you covered. They will be taking over pop-up venue No Walls Gallery as part of Brighton Fringe, premiering the work of more than 20 visionary artists. A whole host of workshops, events and free talks are on the programme for the week.
Highlights include a two-day visionary art workshop, giving beginners and experienced artists alike the rare opportunity to study with master visionary artists Kuba Ambrose and Vera Atlantia. Participants in the events will also be able to measure their brainwaves during a special talk given by Sarah Janes, and practice their life drawing skills in a relaxing and inspiring atmosphere.
So, what is visionary art? The relatively under-appreciated form aims to transcend the physical world and portray a wider vision of awareness including psychedelic, spiritual or mystical themes. It has served to represent the underbelly of the artistic-avant-garde and provided imagery for original voices. Prolific artists such as Alex Grey and Amanda Sage are the movement’s better-known ambassadors, with Alex Grey’s pieces made famous by musicians including David Byrne, Tool, Nirvana and the Beastie Boys.
The House of Alchemy gallery at Brighton Fringe will exhibit original work for sale from international visionary artists including Amanda Sage, Adam Scott Miller, Daniel Miranti, Emma Watkinson, Kuba Ambrose, Vera Atlantia and Kevin Campeau. Artist-in-residence Florence Menard, who runs the Visionary Art Academy in Vienna, will be hosting.
To kick everything off, House of Alchemy are hosting a launch party complete with music from DJ OmNebula at their Church Street gallery. Creative partygoers will be able to paint, watch performers, and meet some of the artists showing their work during the Fringe.
The House of Alchemy launch party will take place on Tuesday 9 May, 7.30 pm. For full details, check the event’s Facebook page.
The Brighton Fringe gallery will be open from Wednesday 10 May – Monday 15 May. Opening hours are 10 am – 6 pm.
