Jackie Oates @Ropetackle Arts Centre, Friday 12 April

Folk singer Jackie Oates, originally from Staffordshire, is coming to the South coast this Friday for an evening of English ballads and songs. The singer first became prominent in 2003 when she was selected as a finalist in the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award. She has toured all over the country and beyond, both as a solo artist and alongside her band, The Imagined Village.

Swing at the FunkyFish Club – Band Night @Funky Fish Club, Friday 12 April

Dance fans, rejoice! There is a new swing night coming to Brighton – the first event will be taking place this Friday, with future events happening every second Friday of the month. The event will start with a lindy hop class for beginners, and musician Alex Bondonno will be performing throughout the night.

Emmaus Spring Fair @Emmaus, Saturday 13 April

Emmaus’s annual Spring Fair is back! As always, there will be plenty of activities for the whole family: a free Easter raffle, cake stalls, crafting and tombola, to name a few. There will also be stalls selling vintage clothes, books and toys. Come along for some family fun while raising money for a great cause – Emmaus helps people move on from homelessness.

The Compassion Experience @Jubilee Square, Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 April

This is a great opportunity to learn more about life in developing countries without having to hop on a plane. Visitors will travel to two African countries, Uganda and Ethiopia, transported by the stories of children living in these developing countries. The exhibition includes more that 2,000 square feet of interactive exhibit space, where visitors will have the chance to step inside homes, schools and markets.

The Vegan Fair @Open Market, Sunday 14 April

The Vegan Fair will take place this sunday from 11AM at the Brighton Open Market. Come along for plenty of vegan food and other vegan goods for sale! This friendly and inclusive celebration aims to raise awareness and share the ethics and ethos of veganism.
