Brighton is famous for many things: Veganism, being the unofficial gay capital of the UK and for its eccentric citizens, but now we’re famous for one more thing – gin! At the People’s Drinks Awards 2017, Brighton Gin was named best in the UK, pipping runner’s up Mason’s Dry Yorkshire Gin and 58 Gin to the post. This premium drink, (which will set you back £39.95), competed amongst 300 other gins for its place as top dog.
Brighton Gin’s creators claim that the award winning gin embodies the seaside city, as it’s “unusual, playful and fiercely independent”. The local spirit is made with 100% British organic wheat spirit, re-distilled with juniper, fresh orange and lime peel, coriander seed and milk thistle.
Kathy Caton, who founded and distills Brighton Gin seemed happy with their win saying, “Brighton is such a creative, pioneering, free-thinking place, with a long-standing heritage of invention and pleasure seeking and a cast of notorious, mold-breaking characters throughout its history.” You can’t argue with that!
Kathy claims she “wanted to create the absolute top quality spirit this city deserves” – well we’re sure the people of Brighton will be very thankful for this creative concoction!
The People’s Drinks Awards is the only UK drinks awards body judged by the general public alone. Before reviewing the packaging and brand story, the judging public had to complete a blind taste test.
The competition consisted of seven awards in total, with three winning for taste, three for branding and one overall people’s choice winner.
The organisers of the People’s Drinks Awards have said, “Brighton Gin are incredibly deserving winners, we’re absolutely thrilled for them.”
This announcement comes just in time for World Gin Day on 10th June!
