What should England’s national anthem be?

Jerusalem isn’t a good one because it’s actually quite critical, isn’t it?

Tom from the independent Resident music shop chose "Memory of a Free Festival by David Bowie."

We asked your friendly faces what England’s national anthem should be, here are your brilliant responses:

“Ghost Town – The Specials.”

“Nobody Knows You When You’re Down and Out – Jimmy Cox.”

“I have no idea, I don’t think it deserves one.”

“Can we use another country’s national anthem? O Canada!”

“Panic (on the Streets of London) – The Smiths.”

Phil chose “Get Your Hands Off My Woman, Motherfucker by The Darkness.”

“Jerusalem isn’t a good one because it’s actually quite critical, isn’t it? Dark Satanic mills and all that stuff. God Save the Queen, I suppose, isn’t a million miles from Rule Britannia.  I think, to be honest about it, it’s a case of if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Don’t see any reason to change it, I think there are far more pressing issues going on at the moment. Definitely not Jerusalem, and definitely not that awful Smiths song.”

Vicky chose the hymn “Abide with Me.”

“I’ll take Billy Connolly’s advice who reckoned it should be the theme tune from The Archers.”

“London Calling – The Clash.”

“God Save the Queen all the way!”

“Certainly not God Save the Queen, The Archers theme is nice and cheerful, Land of Hope and Glory as good background music but not with those words.”

Perry chose the anthem “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot.”

“No religion in it! I have an open mind but it’s fine as it is really.”
