Matt Ryan is heading into the world of media as CBS Sports’ newest NFL analyst, the network announced Monday, after 15 seasons in the NFL.

β€œIt is truly an honor to be joining such an extraordinary team at CBS Sports,” Ryan said he said in a statement. β€œI’ve been fortunate to have such amazing teammates throughout my career and I’m fortunate to be here to continue working and learning from the best in the industry.”

It’s unclear if Ryan will be a mainstay on the game booth, but CBS added that the quarterback will serve as a studio and game analyst across the network’s platforms. Despite his transition from the field to the studio and his status as a free agent, Ryan made it clear that he had not retired from the league as a player. He was released by the Indianapolis Colts this season after one year with the team.

Ryan played 14 years with the Atlanta Falcons from 2008 to 2021 before being traded to the Colts in their most recent offseason. After a lackluster year, the Colts released Ryan and drafted quarterback Anthony Richardson with the No. 4 pick. Ryan won NFL Rookie of the Year in 2008 and the NFL MVP in 2016 when he led the Falcons to the Super Bowl in 2016. He also made four appearances in the Pro Bowl.

He joins a group of former NFL players like running backs Tiki Barber, quarterbacks Tony Romo and Trent Green – both game analysts – as well as in-studio analysts Phil Sims, Boomer Isiason and Nate Burleson.
