Overwatch 2 has revealed a first look at the highly anticipated Season 7 rework of Sombra, revealing her new “Virus” ability as well as a unique stealth radius.
On August 6, Overwatch 2 director Aaron Keller confirmed that controversial hero Sombra would be getting a rework for Season 7, however, he was tight-lipped about details on what would change at the time.
After months of radio silence on the matter, we now have our first look at Sombra’s rework.
From the new “Virus” ability to the unique Stealth Radius feature whereby you’ll be detected when enemies are nearby, there’s a lot to take in.

In a tweet on the game’s official Twitter account, they showed a short video revealing her new outfit with the caption “Sombra brings a virus to the battlefield.”
This ability sees Sombra fire a ‘virus’ projectile at her enemies, though the tweet or video doesn’t mention any other details. As the name and the animation generated by the enemy hero suggest, the skill appears to deal damage over time. We can hear Reinhart being affected by the ability for a few seconds before it fades away.

Although the tweet didn’t say anything else if it was a skill shot or exactly how it would interact with the rest of Sombra’s party.
Another small teaser was a change to her stealth ability. As players have pointed out, it appears that when Sombra is in stealth mode, there will be a radius that if an enemy enters it, the player may be exposed.
Although they didn’t mention if you can still reveal a Sombra in disguise by hitting them. This new mechanic seems to be looking for a new way for players to check for Sombra in disguise.

However, we have no official confirmation if any of these new and reworked abilities will work the way the community has expected so far. So take all of this with a grain of salt until it’s confirmed in the Season 7 update. But it’s safe to say that the Sombra rework looks to change the way we play the hero.
