The ending of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 teases Silk, Carnage, and more new characters

SPOILER ALERT: This story discusses the main plot details up to the end of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 focuses on Peter Parker and Miles Morales as they fight a series of villains throughout the Spider-Man universe. As the final act ends, character arcs end and new arcs open. There are also teasers hinting at the introduction of new characters, but the jury’s still out on whether they’ll be included in future DLC or in Insomniac’s next Spider-Man game.

Green Goblin

After eliminating Venom, also known as Harry Osborn, Miles was able to briefly revive him using his bio-electric powers. However, Harry falls into a coma. As Norman Osborn feels sad and frustrated over his son’s condition, he asks his assistants to prepare the G-Serum. In the comics, Norman is known as the Green Goblin, and given the name of the serum, it’s certainly possible that Spider-Man’s greatest enemy could make an appearance.

It’s the symbiote that initially saved Harry, so it’s not clear whether Norman will use it on himself or Harry. In Amazing Spider-Man 2, Harry was the Green Goblin while Norman was the villain in Sam Raimi’s version of Spider-Man, either way it makes sense.

Additionally, Norman visits the 2018 game’s antagonist, Otto Octavius, also known as Doctor Octopus, in prison. Norman asks Otto about Spider-Man’s secret identity but he doesn’t quite give it up. Otto mentions that he’s writing the “final chapter” in a small book he’s carrying, hinting that Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 may be the end of Insomniac’s version of the Spider-Man universe.

Silk

Rio Morales tells Miles that she entered the dating world after his father died in the first game. In the end, she mentioned that she was seeing someone she really liked. The mystery man will only be revealed at the end of the game.

His name is Albert Moon, and he introduces his daughter, Cindy, to both Rio and Miles. Cindy Moon is the woman behind the movie Silk, which was introduced in 2014. During the cutscene, we can only see the back of Cindy’s head, so we currently don’t know what she looks like.

In Endgame, it looks like Peter Parker will retire from crime fighting, so it’s certainly possible that Silk will join Miles in defending New York. We also don’t know if Cindy has her spider powers yet, or if she’ll get them in the upcoming DLC featuring her, or in the next game.

massacre

As part of Spider-Man 2’s many side quests, “The Flame” series has Peter helping Wraith, also known as Yuri Watanabe, while investigating a cult called The Flame.

At the end of the missions, we learn that the cult leader is Cletus Cassidy, known as Carnage in the comics. During the final mission, Peter is pinned down by a large vehicle while Cletus steals a red symbiote. His last words before he leaves Peter to die are: “And when the scarlet hour rolls upon this earth, it will bring truth and judgment and carnage.”

Wraith chooses to save Peter from a fiery death rather than go after Cletus immediately, allowing the villain to escape and live another day. Afterwards, Yuri says she will try to track down Cletus again by checking his old aliases, but this process could take years. This suggests that Carnage may appear in the future.

chameleon

As part of the “Unidentified Targets” side quest series, players will stumble upon the apartment of Dmitiri Smerdyakov, whose villain name is The Chameleon. Not only that, but we also know that he and Kraven the Hunter are brothers.

In the apartment are The Chameleon’s hunting trophies, including one of Peter’s old masks. Eventually, toxic gas begins to fill the apartment and Spider-Man escapes. As he swings away, a man can be seen watching him. He says: Don’t worry, brother. “I’ll do what you can’t do,” hinting that The Chameleon could make a more substantial appearance later on.

Miguel (via Spider-Verse)

This may just be a cameo and won’t develop into anything else in the future, but it’s still worth noting. After collecting all the Spider-Bots in New York, there is a special event featuring Delilah, a bartender who talks to Spider-Man through a wormhole.

As Delilah literally steals every Spider-Bot away from Miles, she mentions Miguel, who fans know as the primary antagonist in Across the Spider-Verse. “And if Miguel comes looking for these things,” she says, “tell him ‘Guardians of the Finds.’”

Spider-Man has no idea who Miguel is, and when Delilah asks, she simply laughs in his face and closes the wormhole.

It’s unclear if Insomniac wants to incorporate more multiverse elements into its Spider-Man games, but they could certainly do so with Miguel. However, the studio could choose to keep this moment as a simple cameo and nothing more. We’ll see in a few years!
