After slapping a hand that he thought belonged to a rival fan, Auburn basketball player Johnny Brohm realized he had to deal with God — also known as actor Morgan Freeman, who memorably played God in the film. Bruce the Ripper.
Brohm tried to save the ball from going out of bounds in the second half of Auburn's game against Ole Miss when someone in the front row grabbed his jersey.
Thinking an Ole Miss fan was trying to bother him, Broome swung the person's arm away.
Broome turned around and quickly realized it was Freeman, the Oscar-winning actor who is a huge Mississippi State fan and attends many Rebel games.
“I kind of cut his hand off,” Broome later told reporters. “I saw who he was and I'm a big movie guy. I probably saw one of his movies on the plane coming here.
“But I realized it was him and I was like, ‘Oh my God, I’m a huge fan.’” I'm sorry.' “Just keep playing,” he said.
Broome returned to Freeman during the game.
“I thought, 'I'm sorry again,'” Broome said. “He said: You are all doing well.” Just keep playing. He is a very good man. love it.”
Auburn won the game. Broome won acquittal.
