Lady Gaga Talks Why She Won’t Deny Rumors She’s Dating A Man

American singer Lady Gaga has revealed why she has not spoken publicly about rumours that spread earlier in her career that she claimed to be a man.

The singer and actress famously dismissed a question about the rumor during a 2011 interview with CNN, saying, “Why the hell would I waste my time and make a press release about whether or not I have a penis? My fans don’t care and neither do I.” Years later, she got candid about the constant misinformation swirling around her online during an appearance on Netflix’s What’s Next? The Future with Bill Gates.

“When I was in my early 20s, there was a rumor that I was a man,” Lady Gaga tells Bill Gates in episode two. “I traveled all over the world. I traveled on tours and promoting my records, and in almost every interview I did — there were photos on the Internet that were doctored — they would say, ‘There’s a rumor that you’re a man. What do you have to say about that?’”

the Joker: Madness in Duo The star said she never answered the questions “because I didn’t feel like a victim of this lie and I thought, ‘What about a child who is accused of this who would think a public figure like me would feel ashamed?'”

“I’ve been in situations where correcting rumors wasn’t in the best interest of others,” she continued. “In this case, I tried to be thought-provoking and annoying in another way. I tried to use misinformation to create another point of annoyance.”

Lady Gaga added that she has “been used to the lies being spread about me since I was 20. I’m an artist. I think it’s kind of funny.”

The Grammy Award-winning singer was a driving force early in her musical career, known for taking risks and disrupting the status quo. She later moved to Hollywood, where she showed off her acting chops with an award-winning performance in 2018. Birth of a StarLady Gaga is now starring in the upcoming movie.
