Ellen DeGeneres’ last comedy special has aired on Netflix, and the former daytime talk show host is talking about the show’s “cancellation.”
During her Netflix special, DeGeneres spoke about going to therapy to deal with the backlash she received after allegations of creating a toxic work environment on her daily show.
“I was in therapy for a while trying to deal with all the hate that was coming at me,” DeGeneres said on the comedy special. “That was not a common situation for a therapist.” To obtain your consent“One time, my therapist said to me, ‘Ellen, where did you get this idea that everyone hates you?’ And I said, ‘Well, the New York Times, the Washington Post, Entertainment Weekly, Us Weekly, I think Elmo might have said something recently on an episode of sesame street“.”
“She said, ‘I think you just need to avoid the news, avoid the media.’ I said, ‘I do. I don’t follow anything.’ But I always knew when something was going on because I would start getting texts from friends saying they were thinking of me or sending me love letters,” DeGeneres continued.
The comedian also joked about her talk show being canceled, saying she was “kicked out of show business.”
“She said the girl named ‘Be Nice’ wasn’t nice — that’s the headline. “Here’s the problem: I’m a comedian who had a talk show and I ended the show every day by saying, ‘Be nice to each other.’ If I had ended my show by saying, ‘Go to hell,’ people would have been pleasantly surprised to learn that I was nice.”
