Bridgerton fans demand refunds after disappointing Detroit event

DETROIT (WXYZ) — It’s been two days since the Detroit Bridgerton concert scandal, and people who were excited to go there say there are still a lot of unanswered questions.

For Pedro Soto and his newlywed bride, the event was a celebration after their elopement just a day earlier.

“She was so excited. She bought all these things for her outfit and it ended up being something we didn’t expect.” “Soto said.”

The couple, along with hundreds of other fans of the Netflix show, say they spent hundreds of dollars on tickets, costumes and more in hopes of being transported to a fantasy setting, but instead were left disappointed.

“The ticket included food, a bar, a table and chairs at least for us to sit and enjoy ourselves. It also included an orchestra. But what we really got was that the party was going to be ridiculous, Kool-Aid from a bottle, no bar. There weren’t enough chairs and tables for us,” Soto said. “We had to reuse cups, there weren’t enough plates. The backdrops were just paper. It wasn’t anything special. The pictures were really extra.”

The event has since gone viral on social media after event organizers at Uncle N Me LLC failed to meet attendance expectations.

“It’s really a horror story and I’m completely stunned when I see everything that happened.” Local acrobat Tink, who performed at the event, said: “It’s usually not like that. Usually when you go to a show, especially a circus show, it’s an amazing experience. You feel amazed and excited. It’s a bit dangerous and I’m sad that they didn’t get to experience that.”

A photo from July 2024 shows local circus performer Tink performing a hair hanging act.

Tink was a professional circus performer and instructor at Pole Fit in Shelby Township for five years. She says she was hired just three hours before the event and asked to pole dance. She says she faced a lot of negative feedback from people online who weren’t happy to see her perform as part of the Detroit Bridgerton concert.

“When I gave them the menu, they chose pole dancing between hair hanging, lyra collar, and pole dancing, and pole dancing was what we chose,” Tink said. “A lot of people thought it would have been better if I had done hair hanging. I know that’s a higher budget price and I think since it was last minute, if they had more time, we probably could have done hair hanging there. Even the silk, it would have been so beautiful, with the fabrics flying around. I think that would have fit the vibe.”

Tink says the company also selected and approved her outfit for the occasion, a red bra and matching underwear.

“I feel so sorry for all the fans who just came to the event because my goal as a performer is to bring happiness and joy to everyone. So I was disappointed because I know that everyone was not satisfied with the result,” she said.

After our story ran on Monday, viewers reported that they had a similar experience at a Bridgerton-themed tea party at Taylor’s last June. The event was organized by the same company.

“I’m like, ‘This sounds familiar,'” Tamela Everett says she thought about it when she saw the Bridgerton controversy online this week. “I think this company needs to stop. How can they get away with this? They’re profiting off the Bridgerton name but delivering sub-par performance and experiences.”

Tamela Everett speaks to 7 News Detroit on Tuesday about the Detroit Bridgerton Ball.

Everett says she paid $80 per ticket when she took her mother to the event at Taylor Conservation Park. She says that while the decor was beautiful, they waited hours in line for food that was cold when it was finally served.

“It’s a tea party, there’s no tea at all, the mimosas are out of stock, the mimosa cups are out of stock. It’s really unfortunate for such a beautiful event,” Everett said. “I feel like something needs to be done. This company is making a lot of money off of ordinary hardworking people and it’s really not fair.”

After making numerous phone calls, leaving voice messages, and sending text messages on Monday, the company sent the following statement to our newsroom Tuesday afternoon:

“We understand that not everyone had the experience they were hoping for at our latest Sunday night event at The Harmonie Club, and for that we sincerely apologise. Our intention was to provide a magical evening, but we realise that organisational challenges affected some guests’ enjoyment. We take full responsibility for these shortcomings.

Please know that we work hard to address all concerns to ensure that all guests have the enjoyable experience they deserve. Your feedback is invaluable, and we truly appreciate the positive and constructive comments you share with us.

We are reviewing resolution options, which will be communicated to us soon. Your understanding and loyalty mean a lot to us, and we are committed to doing everything we can to rectify this situation.”

“Treat us all fairly, and if anything happens or if something goes wrong, take responsibility and learn from it because we work hard for our money, especially in this economy, and we deserve to get exactly what we pay for,” Evert said.

“Do the right thing, especially when you’re doing a big event like this and people expect a lot from you. Just do the right thing. Give them their money back. I don’t think hosting another event would be the smartest thing to do,” Soto said.
