Baseball fans were not impressed with Dave Roberts’ latest quote.
On Monday afternoon, the eve of Game 3 of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ NLDS matchup with the San Diego Padres, Roberts made a strange remark.
The Dodgers manager was asked about reports that Padres third baseman Manny Machado threw a ball into the Los Angeles dugout during a controversial Game 2 on Sunday night. Roberts claimed to have seen a video showing Machado throwing a ball towards him that was stopped by the net. He said he believed there was “intent behind it.”
Video below.
For his part, after the match, Machado claimed that he was Throw the ball to the ball boywhich is something he does often.
Roberts then continued his message Machado claims by saying“That team over there, they love that kind of villainous role.”
It’s strange to say this on the night after Dodgers fans threw objects at Padres players on multiple occasions during their 10-2 win over Los Angeles in Game 2. It’s also helpful to hear from someone associated with a team that spent nearly $1.2 billion over the offseason. Discuss another team adopting a “villainous role.”
MLB fans were not agreeing with Roberts’ statement.
Yeah, I’m not sure that characterization will sit well with people after what happened Sunday night.
