The Dutch authorities announced on Wednesday the opening of an investigation into a fatal accident that occurred in the Netherlands, after a person ended up trapped in a plane engine.
The accident occurred at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, while a KLM plane was preparing to depart for Billund, Denmark, according to local media. Statement from the Dutch airline. Details about how the person “ended up in a running plane engine” are not yet clear and there is no identifying information about the victim.
“We are currently taking care of the passengers and staff who witnessed the accident in Schiphol,” the airline said. “The circumstances are currently under investigation.”
The Royal Dutch Military Police force, Marechaussee, said it was investigating the incident.
“All passengers and staff on board the flight in question have been disembarked and are being taken care of,” the agency said.
A statement posted by Schiphol Airport on social media described the situation as “terrible.”
Mark Harpers, the Dutch infrastructure minister, called it “horrible news” in a post on X.
“My condolences to the victim’s relatives and people who witnessed the accident,” Harpers wrote.
