Shakira’s new song slamming ex-boyfriend Gerard Pique and his new press has spread like wildfire on Spanish social media this week, prompting some of the world’s most famous brands to cheer it on.
The 45-year-old Colombian Singer Untitled song with DJ BizarrapShakira: The Buzz Music Sessions Vol. 53,” hit the internet on Thursday, Breaking YouTube records The most streamed new Latin song in the history of the platform. The Spanish song is a direct, direct burnout of Pique, her 35-year-old partner of more than a decade and father of her two children. Basically, there’s drama and then there’s Shakira’s new song, which is a drama about steroids.
In the song, Shakira names Pique, a former Spanish footballer for FC Barcelona, a rookie who couldn’t handle a wolf like her. Because of this, the singer claims, her ex-husband is with a girl who looks just like him. In this case, that’s 23-year-old Clara Xia, who also doesn’t escape Shakira’s wrath. While not explicitly referring to her by name, Shakira sings that Piqué traded in a Rolex for a Casio watch and a Ferrari for a Renault Twingo.
“There’s one step from love and hate. Listen to me, don’t come back here,” Shakira sings. “Zero resentment, baby. I wish you the best with my supposed replacement.”
Brands quickly noticed the song’s spread into the mainstream in Spain and quickly joined the conversation, quoting the song’s memorable lyrics and repurposing it in memes, product ads and more. Spanish marketer Itsar Ultra In-depth topic collected On Twitter featuring mentions. Some social posts tried to make a joke but missed the point, while others made me laugh out loud.
“Las mujeres ya no lloran, las mujeres facturan” or “Women Don’t Cry Anymore, They Send Bills” to promote Fleabag On Amazon Prime in Spain. Ikea Spain also took inspiration from this song and used it to promote its €0.50 file boxes, which are, god, touché.
