Andy Reid: Kadarius Toney in battle to join squad

Anyone looking for examples of how quickly things can change in the NFL should take note of how things have gone for Chiefs receiver Kadarius Toney over the past year.

Tony’s long kick return and late touchdown catch helped lift the Chiefs to a Super Bowl LVII win over the Eagles and helped fuel an offseason debate about whether he would be the team’s best receiver in 2023. The missed pass in the season-opening loss to the Lions was the first of many missteps Tony took throughout the season and he ended up inactive for the final seven games of the season despite the Chiefs needing wide receivers to advance.

Those needs have changed and Toney is at the bottom of the list of players wanted as the final cuts approach in a few days. After Thursday’s final postseason game, head coach Andy Reid didn’t offer much reason to believe Toney will make it through the process.

“We went through him last year, so we kind of know who he is,” Reid said at a news conference. “He’s a talented kid. He In battle “It was important for me to be able to join the team, but we never doubted his talent. Keeping him healthy was the main thing.”

The Giants selected Toney in the first round in 2021 with long-term ideas as a key part of their offense, but he may need to find a third team willing to risk him to reach four years in the NFL.
