Anna Delvey’s DWTS Season 33 Debut Included a Dazzling Ankle Monitor

Anna Delvey puts her best foot forward on the dance floor — and that foot includes an ankle monitor.

The socialite — whose real name is Anna Sorokin — drew attention to the accessory during the season 33 premiere of “Dancing with the Stars” on Tuesday.

After being introduced at the start of the show as a “fashionista and entrepreneur,” Delvey, 33, took to the dance floor wearing an ankle monitor that was decorated to match her blue, purple, pink and yellow ensemble. The device appeared to be topped with a bow.

The shimmering ankle display got its own reveal when Delvey danced the cha-cha to Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso.”

Delphi’s tracking device was also discussed in the pre-recorded clip that played just before her dance, as the convicted felon stumbled onto the screen while training with new pro Ezra Sosa.

“That ankle monitor is kind of holding you back today,” Sosa joked as they practiced their moves.

During the clip, Delvey also explained why she had to wear the device. “I overstayed my visa because I was in prison, so it’s kind of hard to get out,” she said with a light laugh.

“I have served my sentence,” she added, saying she hopes to change the way her critics view her.

“I’ve reinvented myself many times, and this time I’m going to be a ballroom dancer.”

Delphi won three out of six awards from the judges, who praised her “fashion designer”.

“I feel like I’ve lost the ability to express myself. You really have the ability to be a really beautiful dancer. Really, you really are,” said Derek Hough, who looked surprised. “I was kind of surprised.”

Bruno Tonioli then made a sarcastic remark about the TV show inspired by Delphi’s criminal history, “The Invention of Anna”.

“Reinventing Anna… again! It might work!” Tonioli shouted in his usual impassioned voice.

Carrie Ann Inaba wrapped up the judging by talking about the elephant in the room.

“I just want to say something. When I walked out onto the dance floor, there was a shift in the energy in this room,” Inaba said. “And I just want to say let’s all give this a chance, because I can imagine that this is scary for you, and I’m not for or against anything you did. But this is about dancing here.

Inaba tried to sum up her quick thoughts about Delphi’s “DWTS” debut as time ran out. “Let’s all give her that space please, so on that note,” she continued before being interrupted by the show’s cast. “On that note, I think I’m done!”

When asked by host Julianne Hough what she hoped people would take away from her time on the show, Delvey replied, “I hope America gets a chance to see a different side of me.”

With “DWTS” taping in Los Angeles, Delvey was given special permission to participate in the competition series alongside Sosa.

Delphi spokesperson Juda Engelmayer confirmed that she can travel within 70 miles of her home base and anywhere in the five boroughs of New York City under the previous conditions of house arrest, according to Associated PressHowever, they were unable to comment on any changes to these rules.

The New York resident has also been forced to wear an ankle monitor since her release from prison in 2022.

Delvey told The Post she doesn’t really want the “spectacle” that comes with wearing a GPS tracker.

“Every time I go out, it’s written that I’m going to wear an ankle bracelet or show it off,” she explained in August. “It seems like people don’t want to acknowledge that I have no choice but to wear it.”

“I don’t want to make a scene out of it,” Delvey added. “I’d like to be able to go out and not be stared at or asked, like every postman does, if I killed my husband or anything like that.”

On her way to her court hearing in June, she decided to have some fun with the ankle bracelet she was wearing. Setting the letter “A” in rhinestones “I’ve been wearing it for about two years. I think I’ve had to dazzle it once or twice,” Delvey continued, with one ICE source describing her as “the dazzling girl.”

But with the start of the new season, Delvey has some concerns when it comes to the fashion department.

“I think the biggest hurdle is knee-high boots, but fall is still coming,” she admitted. “So far, I’ve had bigger issues to worry about.”

The “fake heiress” was arrested in 2017 on charges of defrauding major financial institutions, banks, hotels and friends of more than $250,000 to fund her lavish lifestyle by pretending to be the daughter of a German oil tycoon.

Two years later, Delvey was convicted of eight counts, including attempted grand larceny, second-degree theft and theft of services, but was acquitted of two additional charges.

Delvey was released in February 2021 after being sentenced to between four and 12 years in prison, including time spent behind bars during the trial.

But her legal troubles were not over yet, as immigration authorities detained her for overstaying her visa.

In 2022, Delvey was released from ICE custody, where she had spent more than a year at Orange County Correctional Facility.

After the ordeal, she said, New York Times“I have a completely different perspective now than I did when I first got out last February. It is impossible to go through what I went through without changing. I have learned a lot in prison.”

This whirlwind story led Shonda Rhimes to write “Inventing Anna” from the point of view of a journalist (played by Anna Chlumsky), which viewers believed was inspired by the real reporter, Jessica.

Delvey has watched parts of the Netflix drama and finds the fictional version of herself (played by Julia Garner) to be more “sassy” than she is.

“I think I’ve become more aware of the way I look,” she told The New York Times. “Not all the time, but I don’t think I’m that brazen or shameless.”
