Audition tape for Britney Spears’ “The Notebook” revealed; Casting director says singer ‘beat out’ many young actresses at the time – Deadline

Diaries The film could have been much different if Britney Spears had starred opposite Ryan Gosling in the film. An audition tape of Spears for the lead role of Allie was shared online, and the film’s casting director says she beat out many of the best young actresses at the time.

“Britney beat out many of the best actresses of the time. Scarlett Johansson, Claire Danes, Kate Bosworth, Amy Adams, Jamie King and Mandy Moore auditioned for the role. Britney beat them all out. Everyone,” said casting director Matthew Perry. “It was that year he wanted the part.” daily Mail.

In the audition tape, Spears reads lines to Allie during a pivotal scene in which the fictional character reveals her plans to marry another man. Spears slowly begins to cry as she continues her lines that prove her emotional range and acting abilities.

The role ultimately went to newcomer Rachel McAdams, which Spears was ultimately grateful to because she wasn’t happy with the costumes she had to wear.
