Actress Brittany Mahomes has reportedly begun questioning her support for US President Donald Trump, after the former president attacked one of her close friends Taylor Swift.
Trump’s recent attacks on Swift — who officially endorsed Kamala Harris for president last week — have reportedly shaken Mahomes “to her core.”
Since Swift’s endorsement of the Harris-Walz campaign, Trump’s opinion of the pop star has completely changed, having previously called her “beautiful.” “I hate Taylor Swift,” he wrote on his Truth Social platform.
A source close to Mahomes — the wife of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes — said Trump’s attacks on Swift “have upset her deeply.”
“Taylor is like a sister to her and she has never done anything wrong.” A source said Daily Mail.com. “This shook her to the core.”
Mahomes herself faced backlash on social media after “liking” a Trump post on Instagram, which has since been deleted. Trump later praised her for “defending” him, in a post on Truth Social.
Swift and Mahomes are known to be close friends, with the singer dating Patrick Mahomes’ teammate Travis Kelce. The pair regularly appear at Chiefs games together, and were photographed hugging each other warmly at the U.S. Open, prompting protests from Swift’s fans who condemned the singer for her closeness to Mahomes as a Trump supporter.
“Taylor girl, that’s not Miss America from you, how can you stand being around someone like that?” one person tweeted, referring to the pop star’s 2020 documentary about Miss America.
However, according to mail Mahomes’ concern for her friend’s safety doesn’t mean she’s “suddenly going to vote for Kamala,” the source said. “It’s made her more conscious of supporting him publicly,” the source added.
In her post endorsing Harris and Walz, Swift made clear that she wanted others to do their own research before choosing who to vote for.
“I will be voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 presidential election,” she wrote. “I will be voting for @kamalaharris because she is fighting for rights and causes that I believe need a warrior to fight for.”
“I’ve done my research and made my decision. The research is up to you, the choice is up to you.”
