Country icon Dolly Parton showed off her age in her daring cheerleading outfit, wowing the crowd at the halftime show of the Commanders-Cowboys game in Dallas on Thanksgiving.
The 77-year-old took center stage in a blue-and-white mini jersey and shorts at AT&T Stadium as the Cowboys took a 20-10 lead against Washington on Thursday.
Parton sang two of her biggest hits, “Jolene” and “9 to 5,” and also performed “We Are the Champions / We Will Rock You,” in front of a sold-out crowd in Texas.
Fans were blown away by her brief live performance, with Undisputed’s Skip Bayless being among the first on X (formerly Twitter) to pay tribute to Parton.
“How about that Dolly Parton,” the sports analyst posted. “Talk about dressing for the occasion.” Now that’s pretty impressive.
Another added, as the US election approached: “Joe Biden is 81, Donald Trump is 77. If we have to elect an old person, let it be Dolly Parton.”
Meanwhile, another fan described her as a “queen” and one described her as a “national treasure” as the performance impressed the majority of fans.
At the CBS booth, broadcaster Tony Romo couldn’t hide his excitement discussing Barton’s Thanksgiving halftime performance.
After watching the 77-year-old wow in her cheerleading uniform, Romo and Jim Nantz discussed the show in the booth — and the former made his feelings quite clear.
“She was wearing…a cowboy cheerleading uniform,” he began as he addressed Nantz in the booth. ‘You saw that coming, didn’t you?
I said, “I think she’s going to go in a little cheerleading outfit tonight,” and I said, “Great, very good.”
Nantz then tried to change the conversation by asking: “What do you think we’ll see in the second half?”, but Romo wasn’t ready to move on yet, adding: “I mean, it looks amazing, doesn’t it?” It’s a great. Who doesn’t love Dolly Parton?
Parton’s live performance was a far cry from Jack Harlow’s, as the majority of fans in the Green Bay Packers’ upset win over the rival, Detroit Lions, were unimpressed by the rapper’s halftime appearance.
To complete America’s annual fall holiday, DJ Steve Aoki will perform during halftime of the late-night game between the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers.
The rivalry between the Chiefs and the Cowboys has been a popular theme at Thanksgiving, having been played out 10 times in the past.
Dallas won eight of those games.
The last Turkey Day matchup between the two NFC teams was a 41-16 win over Washington in 2020.
