“Disorganized” Tropical Storm Philip is eyeing Maine with a forecast cone

Parts of Maine are once again in the projected cone of a tropical system. Although Tropical Storm Philip is still nearly a thousand miles away, it is expected to approach the central or eastern coast of Maine. As of 5pm Wednesday, the storm was 295 miles from St. Thomas and 695 miles from Bermuda with 40 mph winds. Philip is moving north at 12 mph. Despite heavy rains in the British and US Virgin Islands, the National Hurricane Authority says Philip is a disorderly storm. Its speed is expected to increase as it heads north on Thursday and Friday. As Philip approaches Maine, it will interact with a developing rainstorm approaching from the west. Depending on the exact interaction, the state could see heavy rain and gusty winds from the combined storms. The timing of the storms could bring rain to the area on Saturday and possibly even Saturday night. Maine’s meteorologist team is continuing to track both Philip and the rainstorm and will update forecasts and impacts as it approaches.
