Donald Trump reacts after ABC News President Kim Goodwin announced her resignation after three years at the network. In a post on Truth Social, the former president wrote: “I am pleased to report that Kim Goodwin, President of ABC, has resigned. Could this be the unfair reporting on everything Trump related?”
He added: “Anyway, good riddance!” Hopefully someone else can get a hold of George Slopadopoulos and the rest of the fake news thugs at ABC? Best wishes Kim!
Kim Goodwin is stepping down
Goodwin’s move comes months after The Walt Disney Company, the network’s parent company, hired Debra O’Connell, one of its executives, to oversee the news division.
Goodwin was the first black woman to lead the network’s news department. Reports claimed she faced increased scrutiny over her performance from company bosses. It has been said that she was stripped of much power.
“I have decided to retire from broadcast journalism,” Goodwin said in a memo to staff obtained by the New York Post. “Anyone who is passionate about what we do knows there is no other business like it, so this was not an easy or quick decision.”
She added: “But after a long thought, I am sure that it is the right choice for me and I look to the future and prioritize what is most important to me and my family.”
Goodwin said in a memo to staff that she appreciates the significance of being the first Black woman to hold such a prominent position in a broadcast news role. “It is a privilege and a debt to those who broke the roof before me to lead a team whose brand is synonymous with trust, integrity and relentless determination to be the best in the business,” she wrote.
Goodwin has worked at ABC, CBS, NBC and at local news stations in nine cities. “I leave with my head held high and wishing the entire team continued success,” she said, according to the Washington Post.
