Drew Barrymore received a surprisingly sweet response Thursday to her Music and lyrics Criticizing co-star Hugh Grant for her singing voice. She simply performed part of the movie’s big song, the catchy “Way Back Into Love,” missed notes and all with a hairbrush as a microphone.

“Oh, Hugh… Bert. Hubert,” she said, before singing again, “This is for you.”

Earlier in the week, Grant called the actress and talk show host’s voice “just awful.”

This happened during an interview with Wiredwhen the next star Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves He was asked if he did his own singing in the 2007 rom-com, in which Grant plays a washed-up pop star who teams up with Barrymore to write a catchy pop song for a celebrity who’s reminiscent of Britney Spears (played by Haley Bennett). The song they came up with is the catchy “Way Back Into Love,” which was penned by the late Adam Schlesinger. A version of the tune on the official soundtrack is, in fact, credited to Grant and Barrymore.

“Yeah, okay, but I’m incredibly auto-tuned,” said Grant, who was seated alongside fellow co-stars Chris Pine and Michelle Rodriguez. “Actually, it’s not true, I auto-tuned a little bit, but not as much as some. Drew Barrymore was with me on that movie and I don’t think she would mind if I said her singing was awful.”

“I’ve heard dogs bark better than they sing,” he added with a chuckle.

Ouch.

“But that said, once she tuned in, she sounded better than me,” said Grant, “because she had the heart and the voice and the rock n roll when I sounded like Julie Andrews and was meant to be rock ‘n roll.”

The two showed up last year, when he showed up The Drew Barrymore ShowThey have remained friends since their movie hit theaters. And it turns out that their first interaction was when I reached out to him during, as he put it, “the dark days of the Divine Brown scandal.”

“You will always have a place in my heart,” Grant told her.

The then-host mentioned that Grant is “kind of a prankster,” which is exactly what he seemed to be on Sunday on the Oscars red carpet, when he gave a painfully awkward interview to supermodel Ashley Graham, over his refusal to answer her questions with more than a few words. Graham himself replied, which she gave him TMZ The cameras were, “You know what, my mom told me to kill people with kindness. So there you go.”
