Execs break down 49ers tight end Brandon Aiyuk's future amid trade talks – NBC Sports Bay Area & California

There is still a big question mark over Brandon Aiyuk's future in the Bay, but a handful of NFL executives have commented on how they believe the situation will unfold for the 49ers' star wide receiver.

He spoke to general managers and other league executives, all of whom were not named Washington Post correspondent Jason La Canfora They expressed doubts about the possibility of Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel wearing red and gold for the foreseeable future.

“One of them will not go back there,” one general manager told La Canfora newspaper.

Another executive added: “Personally, I would be shocked if they didn't change one. When you look at the model of how they build the roster, structure their contracts, and with a quarterback going up in a year, I don't think they would pay them both…and if Deepo is the guy that “He's going away. I think he's already gone.”

Aiyuk remains under contract through the 2024 NFL season after being drafted by San Francisco in the first round (No. 25 overall) of the 2020 draft.

But San Francisco rewarding Nick Bosa and then Deebo Samuel with big paydays made things difficult for Aiyuk's next trade, since 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is also due what is expected to be a massive raise in 2025.

Another general manager suggested to La Canfora that Aiyuk would have already secured his new contract with the 49ers by now if that were to happen, adding that Aiyuk is “one to watch” while discussing available receivers around the league.

Another executive told La Canfora: “I don't think they'll get everything they want for him because of what you'll have to pay him. But they have to listen.”
