An argument arose, it was said after the dice game, and shots were fired. Takeoff was announced dead at the scene.
Industry figures and fans mourned his death, with tributes flowing to the late rapper on social media.
His bandmate continued, “He did some songs and he has the same passion as we do in music. He goes right there and doesn’t like playing in the studio. Far off the top as he is, he lets it come to him but he’s a great artist. His bro has been tough.”
Everything Houston police said about the fatal accident
Houston police called a press conference on Tuesday (November 1) to report on the shooting that killed Tykov.
During the conference, Police Chief Troy Wiener revealed several key details about the tragic event.
Police officers said they were called at about 2.34 a.m. local time (07.34 GMT) about a shooting outside 810 billiards and automatic bowling in downtown Houston where a private party of about 40 people, including Takeoff and Quavo, was being held.
Police said a scuffle broke out and at least two gunshots were fired, causing many people to flee the scene.
Takeoff was announced dead at the scene. At the time, officials did not name the victim but identified him as a black man in his 20s. Tykov’s representatives were the first to confirm his death, and police confirmation followed soon after.
Two other people – a 23-year-old man and a 24-year-old female – were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Having said that, the police seem to confirm that Quavo was unharmed during the altercation as he is 31 years old.
