Video showed strong winds from Hurricane Milton tearing the roof off Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, home of the Major League Baseball team Tampa Bay Rays, on Wednesday evening.
Pieces of Transparent, Teflon coated A fiberglass roof could be seen flapping in the wind. Within minutes, videos posted on social media showed the paintings growing in size until large portions of the ceiling were completely gone.
Earlier this week, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said Tropicana Field announced It was converted into a 10,000-person base camp “to support ongoing wreckage operations and post-landing responders.”
Tropicana Field’s roof is sloped “to reduce cooling costs and better protect the stadium from hurricanes,” according to Field website.
in Posted on social media The Rays said Sunday that “Tropicana Field is not being used as a shelter,” and urged residents to stay informed about the storm through local officials.
Hurricane Milton made landfall near Sarasota on Wednesday. Large parts of Florida experienced major flooding. The tornadoes also wreaked havoc across the state, destroying homes and causing some injuries and even death, according to at least one county official.
